IMERYS Performance Minerals North America Participated in Donation to Arlington National Cemetery
Atlanta, GA, July 13, 2009 – Imerys Performance Minerals North America a member of the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) participated in Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries on Monday, July 13, 2009.
Imerys along with several other companies from across the nation donated products and their staff’s time to spend the day mulching, cabling and installing lightening protection for trees, pruning, liming over 200 acres, planting, and aerating the soil at Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries.
“Our members look forward to this opportunity each year to give back to the men and women who gave their lives for their country,” said Walter Wray, CLT, PLANET member and chairman of the event. “We consider it a privilege to be able to lend our time and talents to such a worthwhile project.” Many PLANET members have special connections at the cemeteries either through relatives and friends who are buried there or through their own military service.
This year Imerys brought along one of its own veterans, Carl Cuthbertson. Carl joined the United States Air Force in December of 1968 and completed his service as a captain in January of 1972. Carl states, “It was an honor and a privilege to represent Imerys at this ceremony at Arlington. I reflected on just how much sacrifice was given by those whose graves I was so near. I felt a sense of deep humility and thanks. Just being close to many of my contemporaries from the Vietnam era that are here at Arlington was a very moving experience. Also, having an uncle buried at Arlington who served in France during WWII meant a lot to me, as I was able to view his crypt.”
Imerys has participated in this project since its inception 13 years ago and donates all of the lime that is used for the grounds.
