Imerys donates Lime-Rite® pelletized lime to Arlington National and Historic Congressional Cemeteries event
Atlanta, GA - Imerys donated 128 tons of Lime-Rite® pelletized lime for The Professional Landcare Network’s (PLANET) “Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National Cemetery and Historic Congressional Cemetery” event held on July 16, 2007. Imerys employees Lynn Agate, sales, and Hannah Barnes, market segment manager, participated in the event to assist with the liming of Arlington National Cemetery.
“This is a simple but effective way we can help honor our nation’s veterans,” says Barnes. “The many veterans who helped with the work were inspiring.”
Landscape and lawn care crews from around the nation spent the day at Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries mulching, caring for and cabling trees with lightening protection, pruning, liming, planting, and aerating. The gift of materials and services by these companies is valued at more than $250,000.
Arlington National Cemetery contains the remains of over 300,000 veterans, from the American Revolution through the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The lesser-known historic Congressional Cemetery is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. It contains the graves of veterans of the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War; soldiers from both sides of the Civil War as well as craftsmen and architects of the Capitol; Indian chiefs; foreign diplomats; victims of tragedies and crime; prominent businessmen and ordinary citizens.
