Imerys Launches a Novel Additive for UV Cured Coating
Brussels, Belgium – October 2009 – Imerys is pleased to introduce ImerCure™ X10, the latest development in mineral technology for UV cured wood coatings.
ImerCure™ X10 has been specifically engineered to provide substantial improvements in mechanical properties and give controlled matting in 100% UV Cured resins. The improved performance coupled with the partial replacement of the UV Resin allows the coatings producer to make significant cost savings whilst also reducing the overall carbon footprint of the final product. In addition to the potential cost savings through resin replacement, ImerCure™ X10 also offers several further advantages including increased line speed, cycle time and improved coating properties.
The carefully controlled particle size distribution of ImerCure™ X10 had been specifically developed to enable loadings of up to 15wt% in the coating whilst maintaining the film properties. The improved mechanical properties obtained when using ImerCure™ X10 enable thinner film applications which in turn lead can lead to faster cure times. Whilst the addition of ImerCure™ X10 to the coating system can help to reduce both raw material and process costs, the key functional properties of the coating are maintained or, in certain cases, improved. Even at the highest recommended loadings of ImerCure™ X10, the final wood coating retains the key functional properties such as transparency, clarity and scratch resistance, whilst hardness, strength and brittleness are improved.
ImerCure™ X10 is an engineered aluminium silicate manufactured in Europe and is specifically designed for use in 100% UV Cured systems. This latest product from Imerys complements its wide range of functional additives for coatings, covering applications across decorative, marine, coil and other coating sectors.
