Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3)
Calcium carbonates are composed of the crystalline mineral, calcite, which occurs naturally in the form of chalk, marble or limestone. Chalk is usually fine textured, and varies in color from deposit to deposit. Marble deposits are limestones changed by crystallization under conditions of extreme heat and pressure. In some cases, this natural process yields pure marble of exceptional whiteness, such as the famous deposits at Carrara, Italy.
IMERYS is a leading producer of high quality calcium carbonates and has production sites in Alabama, Arizona, Maryland and Georgia in the United States.
