Calcium Carbonate in Rubber Applications
Fine calcium carbonates such as Polcarb 90, Polcarb SB and Polcarb SV offer the compounder the opportunity to replace or partially replace precipitated calcium carbonate. Applications where this is possible are high quality extrusions and moulded domestic products.
Compared to coarser calcium carbonates, fine grades give superior hot-tear strength.
The fine particle size in combination with a stearate coating (applied to Polcarb SB, Polcarb SV, Polcarb 60S and Polcarb 50SV) give good surface finish, better dispersion and improved extrudability.
Coarser grades are used in rubber as extenders to improve rheology and processability and to reduce the cost of the formulation
