Imerys Technical Presentation on New Ideas and Strategies for Titanium Dioxide Extension by Mineral Pigments at Western Coatings Symposium
Atlanta, GA, October 19, 2011 – Imerys Performance Minerals announced it will present innovative solutions for titanium dioxide extension at Western Coatings Symposium, October 23-26, in Las Vegas.
Never has titanium dioxide (TiO2) extension been more important in decorative paints. Opacifying extenders from Imerys can reduce a paint manufacturer's total titanium dioxide requirement, while at the same time making savings in the raw material cost per gallon of paint. Imerys opacifying extenders allow the replacement of up to 15% titanium dioxide in a paint without any loss of opacity or other key properties.
To learn more, attend the talk by David Skelhorn, Technical Service Manager for Imerys Performance Minerals. The technical presentation will focus on engineered mineral pigments using kaolin and calcium carbonate, which allow reduction of TiO2 in coating formulations. The session will be held Monday, October 24, 3:40 - 4:10 pm.

According to Skelhorn, "The nature of the extender pigment engineering is specific to each mineral, which means use of these extender pigments has to be carefully fitted to the formulation design of the paint or coating. Not every extender will work effectively in all systems." To solve a specific formulation, Imerys has a broad range of mineral resources and technical experts to draw upon.
